A first aid kit only helps if it is complete, easy to find and the people around it know how to use what is inside. Here is what a basic workplace kit usually holds, and how to keep it ready.

What a basic kit usually holds

Basic kit

  • Adhesive bandages in several sizes
  • Sterile gauze pads and roller bandages
  • Adhesive tape and scissors
  • Disposable gloves
  • A CPR face shield or pocket mask

The right contents depend on your workplace, the number of people and the risks of the work. Your safety officer can tell you what applies to your site.

Keep it stocked

Name a person to check the kit on a set schedule, replace anything used or expired, and keep a short log. Put the kit where everyone can reach it quickly, and make sure its location is part of your safety briefing.

Train the people, not just the kit

Supplies are only half of the answer. A First Aid class gives your team the hands-on practice to use them calmly when it counts.
